VAT Reclaim

As a UK registered company with all transactions processed and completed in the UK, we have to charge Value Added Tax (VAT) on each and every transaction. There are no exceptions. Customers often ask us what we do and sometimes we merely feel like unpaid tax collectors. But as Stephen Fry said, “Without tax, is without civilisation”.

However, some customers who are non-resident in the United Kingdom are entitled to claim back the VAT they have been charged. And we are here to help them do that.

There are two ways in which a customer can claim back the VAT they have been charged and all you need to do is follow these simple steps.

Number One

Henry Herbert will work on and complete your garment in the normal way.

Number Two

Let Us Know you need to claim back the VAT.
You can then either:

Once you have safely received the finished garment and you are on your way to your departure point from the UK with the garment, you present the reclaim form and goods to the Customs/VAT Reclaim office at your point of departure. They may ask to inspect the goods and will then make a decision about the refund.

This is known as the Retail Export Scheme and the appropriate form is numbered 407.

Henry Herbert Tailors can issue you the necessary VAT reclaim for this.

Please note, we simply issue the VAT reclaim form and have no say in how, when and how much is refunded – we are just a small potato tailoring firm!

The alternative is that once we have sent you the garments by courier and they have safely arrived in your home country, we send you a VAT reclaim form. You sign and send back the form to the address given on the form (GB TaxFree Shopping) and you will be refunded the VAT back to your nominated card.

Please note, we simply issue the VAT reclaim form and have no say in how, when and how much is refunded – we are just a small potato tailoring firm!
