Morning Suits

We hope we have removed the starch and stuffiness from tailoring. Our friendly and highly experienced tailors are not only well versed in the rules and dictates of formal wear but also how to bend and break those rules.

Tailor’s Notes

Look around the congregation at any wedding where the dress code is “morning suits” and you’ll spy countless badly dressed men. Men in box-like coats that make them look like undertakers; men in tired-looking garb clearly hired from high-street chains; men with conservative demeanours who have awkwardly decided to have “fun” with their waistcoat. But among the sea of dreadfulness you’ll also spot a few guys who look fantastic. And this is one of them.

The Construction
Made with a canvass, our morning suits are made and cut in England. As with all photographs on our website, thery are actual customers in actual Henry Herbert morning suits. As with every suit we make, they take 8-9 weeks to make – we have a half way baste fitting and then a forward baste fitting before the suit is finished and delivered.

Morning has broken – into a wonderful day

Tailor’s Notes

The morning suit can be as diverse as any other aspect of the wedding day. A subtle carousel of creams or ivories can bring a sunny splendour to the day. These subtle tones intertwine with the flowers for both the groom’s button hole display and the bride’s bouquet – a blossoming partnership! The angle of the bottom of the waistcoat fits smartly over the morning trousers – a look as relaxed as the groom – even if he’s not really!

The Morning Chorus

Tailor’s Notes

This handsome groom does not need a choir with his colourful co-ordination. What a wonderful medley, with the mellow yellow, double breasted, collared waistcoat, subtly patterned tie and that titanic tartan! The traditional theme of the morning suit is only enhanced by the introduction of some of the groom’s own lyrics to a swan song of the predictable. An operatic masterpiece, without the drama! A real classic.

Tailor’s Notes

This will probably be the most important morning of your life so you will want to wake up to colour and light, whilst considering the ceremony of the day ahead. So, although you may wish for continuity with the morning or wedding suit itself, there are some exciting ways of mixing and matching the colours of the ties/cravats and waistcoats of the groom’s party. There are some beautiful lilacs, lemons, ivory and indigo colours to select – the world really is your oyster (another good colour) on this momentous occasion. A selection of subtle shades enables you to bring a rosy blush to the groom’s attire – to match the blushing bride!

A Beautiful Summer Morning

Bespoke Morning Suit

Tailor’s Notes

If there is one thing that the British male of a certain class does well it is a posh wedding. The uniform is quite simple – black or grey jacket with tails that finish just before the knees, twinned with grey and black striped trousers (or “spongebags” as old Etonians such as Princes William and Harry and Bertie Wooster would call them). The waistcoat is traditionally buff or dove grey, though sky blue and butter yellow are also popular. Double-breasted waistcoats can have a lapel, either shawl or peak, and are worn fully buttoned unlike their single-breasted cousins when the bottom button is traditionally left undone. The shirt should be white – or a very light colour. The collar should, of course, be long enough to tuck under the jacket and the cuffs should be double. The tie should ideally be grey and the knot four-in-hand.
