Henry Herbert - the Scootering Savile Row Tailoring Service.
A special shirt we have made for the Managing Director of a large media firm. The fabric is from Acorn, in Lancashire, and is made of an excellent English cotton. The shirt is made even more unusual by the special collar trim and button sewing surround. Every part of this shirt was handmade, in London. Hopefully we will have a video up soon to show you the different processes in making a handmade, bespoke shirt.
An example of an excellent and very fine cloth from Taylor & Lodge of Huddersfield, England, in a recent Henry Herbert three-piece suit. The secret is, “always keep the style simple and the cloth special.”
On the inside of every Henry Herbert jacket, we always make a little label, discreetly hidden inside the inner pocket, stating the date we made the suit and who it was made for. This is a tradition of Savile Row.
As bespoke tailors, Henry Herbert can offer any cut and style of waistcoat you wish. However, we have found that the styles below tend to be the most popular.
The Pocketwatch Waistcoat
The Pocketwatch Waistcoat is very similar to the Oscar Lafontaine Waistcoat (see below) with the exception of its pockets, which were originally designed to accommodate a pocketwatch or a stopwatch.

The Edwardian Line
The Edwardian Line was a reaction to King Edward’s Waistcoat. Both
waistcoats have clean symmetrical lines defining their shape, but the
Edwardian Line has a sharp line punching through the area around the tummy – a provocative but subtle style reaction to the King’s favourite.

The Evening Waistcoat
The evening waistcoat is designed to be worn with a black tie. The low slung body hides it discreetly behind a buttoned dinner jacket and tuxedo shirt, but quickly reveals itself when the jacket is unbuttoned. It should be worn without a cummerbund and the waistcoat buttons should remain fastened throughout the evening.

The Lounge Waistcoat
The Lounge waistcoat was once always a key characteristic of the three piece suit, but today it has been adopted as a popular choice amongst the youth of Britain, such as the style icon Kate Moss and the members of indie band Razorlight who wear them over casual shirts and jeans for a day-to-day fashionable look.

The OsKar Lafontaine Waistcoat
Oskar Lafontaine is a German politician and former German Finance Minister. During his short tenure as Minister of Finance, Lafontaine was a major bogeyman of UK Eurosceptics. He is famed for always wearing a waistcoat, with two large, front pockets and five buttons, thus the Oscar Lafontaine Waistcoat.

A great blue jacket, designed with cloth from Dugdale Bros, complimented with a sharp looking shirt, with shirting cloth from Acorn Fabrics. We have made this for a customer who is getting married in the spring and, although the fitting is only in its baste fitting stage, it is already achieving the sharp effect that such a combination of colour, cut and style can offer.
Yes, that’s right….Henry Herbert makes ladies suits! We make two and three piece suits and you can choose between jackets, trousers, skirts and waistcoats. All we ask is that, when a tailor comes to visit you, we are allowed to take away with us a jacket that already fits you well, which we use a base pattern. (We can include any alterations that you wish to be incorporated). The jackets are always safely returned. All you have to do is Book a Tailor! We offer a great range of pure wools which we always carry with us. However, if you wish to choose from the immaculate and colourful range of Linton fabrics, then please let us know when booking a tailor so that we know to bring them with us. As a footnote, Linton is the fabric of choice for haute couture Chanel jackets.
Henry Herbert offers a full alteration service. All of our alterations are carried out in London. We offer two services: Option 1 and Option 2 - see below. We offer an Express same day service too for a small surcharge…simply contact us to add it to your Option.
Option 1
Henry Herbert visits you! We will send along a tailor, by Vespa (or train, plane or automobile if the scooters don’t get us there!). We will bring with us our measuring tapes, chalk and pins and go through each change you wish to make. Our alteration charges can be found on our prices page. There is a one-off tailor visiting charge of £25. Simply contact Henry Herbert to order this option.

Option 2
Send to Henry Herbert by recorded delivery, or other courier service, the garments you wish to have altered. Simply mark what you wish to be altered and, the moment we receive them, a Henry Herbert tailor will telephone you to confirm the alterations. Our alterations charges can be found on our prices page. Simply contact Henry Herbert to order this option.
Henry Herbert offers an Express Service for people who need their bespoke suits and bespoke shirts in a hurry! Our suits and overcoats normally take 8-10 weeks from start to finish, with a number of fittings during this period. Our tailored shirts take about 4 weeks. However for those in a hurry, we offer an Express Service with the shirts, suits or overcoats. If you need any of these garments within four weeks, simply ask for our Express Service.
